Maseru Private Hospital (MPH) started operations in 1996 with the aim of enabling the local doctors to use the facility for general delivery of health services in a privately managed facility. It started as a company, went under and subsequently became the property of the Government of Lesotho through the Ministry of Finance Over a time, the hospital exchanged hands between various management teams, and is currently operated by Excel Health (Pty) Ltd (Excel) on a fifteen-year sublease with the Government of Lesotho, which began in September 2009. It is otherwise licensed by the Ministry of Health per Public Health Order No.12 of 1970.
